Introduction to the 1% artistic
As an expression of the public will to support creativity and educate our fellow citizens on the art of our times, “the obligation to decorate public buildings”, commonly known as the “1% artistic”, is a specific procedure for ordering works from artists that is required of the State, its public institutions and local authorities since 1951.
It has resulted in over 12,300 projects spread across the region and involving more than 4,000 artists.
The works of Paris - Vallée de la Marne
There are several works by renowned visual artists in the public areas of Paris - Vallée de la Marne.
Most were undertaken during the construction of the new town. Frescoes, sculptures and urban facilities are witnesses to the history and the development of this urban area. Yet many are forgotten and ignored by the general public as institutions. These works are part of the heritage of our region and it is therefore essential to protect and promote them.
